Vertell Dawn Corprew was born on December 30, 1965 to the late Joan Corprew in Harlem, New York. After a long and courageous battle with illness, our dear Vertell departed this life on Saturday evening, May 25, 2019 at Atrium Hospital in Pineville, NC. Vertell loved the Lord and was both an ordained evangelist and minister. Vertell deeply loved her children Avery, LaTeisha, Jaquan, Carisa, Rondeisha, and Senneca. Anyone who knew Vertell, knows how much she loved her children. In fact, she didn’t play with no one messing with her kids. And that’s all “Imma say” (in her voice).
Besides praying heaven down, Vertell could SAANG! She loved to sing. She would sing until the gates of heaven opened, and she shared her love for singing with everyone. One of her favorite songs was Let’s Have Church! An anointed psalmist and poet, Vertell’s poems were so anointed that they would touch you to your very soul.
Vertell also loved to cook; have fun with her family; and she could play a mean game of Spades. She always opened her home to anyone who needed a meal, a place to stay or a listening and caring friend. Vertell loved people, and she was loved by many.
She leaves to cherish her memory her 6 children, Avery, LaTeisha, Jaquan, Carisa, Rondeisha, and Senneca. Her husband Ronald; her siblings Darryl (Edwina) Phillip (Anna) Damon, and Monica. Her baby sister Yvette “Tee-Tee” preceded her in death in 2016. Eleven grandchildren: Tanijha, Shalik, Averiona, Ta~Varia, Nyima, Titus, Jahsi, Zion, Avery, Eli, and Logan. Her adopted parents the Allen’s; her grandmother Geneva Corprew, her loving nieces and nephews, her prayer group, and many dear family and friends. She will be missed but will forever live on in our hearts.
